Chatham Monitor & The Cape Cod Chronicle Historical Collection

The Eldredge Public Library's entire collection of historic Chatham newspapers has now been digitized and is available on this site as well as inside the Library.

This Digital Newspaper Collection contains page images of the local Chatham newspapers from 1871-1899, 1918-1939, 1941 - 1943, and from 1965 to 2022.

The digitization of these newspapers with subsequent keyword search capability, as well as more advanced search capabilities, has made this historic source of Chatham and Cape Cod history more useful to researchers as well as the general public alike. The Digital Newspaper Collection is available online, as well as on computers within the Library.

Microsearch Corporation of Gloucester, MA is our technology partner and has provided the digitization, search and hosting services necessary to turn our microfilm collection into searchable and retrievable newspaper page images, for both online search and retrieval from this web site, as well as on computers inside the Library. Microsearch specializes in online document search, and provides this service to other Massachusetts Libraries.
The technology Microsearch Corporation has used to create the search and retrieval capabilities is new. We believe we may be the first library in the country which has the ability to search across all newspaper images and retrieve the page with the search term highlighted within a fully functioning Adobe PDF page. Adobe was chosen because it provides the newspaper page images with a superior replication of the look and feel of the original paper.
